I have to tell you; this quick project was so satisfying that I’m eager to make 50 more. My bow shop don’t stop. My friend Sarah Jane tipped me off to a tutorial over at How About Orange that shows you how to make gift bows out of magazine pages. Even if you’re not crafty you can totally handle this. I promise. Once you understand how it works you’ll be ripping your old magazines apart and scanning your new magazines for all the pretty ads that would make great bows.

The bows also make newspaper giftwrap look super cute and clever. Projects that are both eco-friendly and frugal get my stamp of approval. These also look hipper than commercially wrapped gifts, don’t they? If you’d like to read the tutorial, click here. Have fun!

ooh, i may have to try this one, need to find some cool mag pages. thanks!
Okay, I am all over this! I have about a bazillion magazines right now, and those bows are sooo cute! I LOVE How About Orange too, but I haven’t seen this…Awesome! Thanks!!
LOVE this idea! We are going to make them in Girl Scouts tomorrow, along side the project I already had planned. We are using all materials we have on hand for our craft projects this year, so this fit in the theme. Thanks so much for sharing!
Hi Cheryl,
Great idea for a Girl Scouts project! I’m happy to share, glad you can use it. : )
We make gift tags out of recycled Christmas cards. Just cut out the cover art or the background design if it’s colorful. Sometimes the back art+inside message works, too. We just kept all cards we received, and in a couple years, we had enough for an endless supply of tags.
This is a fantastic idea, Margaret. I’m going to save mine this year for just that purpose. Thank you for a great frugal hack.
